What is BS EN 124-1 - Design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops about?
BS EN 124-1 is applicable to manhole tops and gully tops with a clear opening up to and including 1 000 mm for covering gullies, manholes, and inspection chambers installed in areas subjected to pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic.
BS EN 124-1 specifies definitions, classification, general principles of design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops according to:
- EN 124‑2, for gully tops and manhole tops made of cast iron
- EN 124‑3, for gully tops and manhole tops made of steel or aluminium alloys
- EN 124‑4, for gully tops and manhole tops made of steel-reinforced concrete
- EN 124‑5, for gully tops and manhole tops made of composite materials
- EN 124‑6, for gully tops and manhole tops made of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), or unplasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC-U)
Note: BS EN 124-1 is not applicable to:
- Gratings/covers as part of prefabricated drainage channels according to EN 1433
- Floor and roof gullies in buildings which are specified in EN 1253 (all parts)
- Surface boxes
Who is BS EN 124-1 - Design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops for?
BS EN 124-1 on design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops is useful for:
- Manufacturers of gully tops and manhole tops
- Installers
- Safety regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS EN 124-1 - Design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops?
Gully tops and manhole tops develop leaks as a result of heavy traffic and from freezing and thawing, causing sanitary overflow problems and expensive repairs. In repairing these manholes, crews face the challenges of sealing or otherwise repairing the chimney.
BS EN 124-1 experts will work with you during design and assess performance of manhole tops and gully tops to ensure it runs smoothly.
BS EN 124-1 specifies definitions, classification, general principles of design, performance requirements, and test methods for gully tops and manhole tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas which helps you in manufacturing and selection of material.
