What is BS EN 1295-1 - Buried pipelines general requirements about?
BS EN 1295 is a series of the European standard on buried pipelines used in buildings that establishes methods of the structural design under various conditions of loading.
BS EN 1295-1 is the first part of the BS EN 1295 series of the documents that specifies the requirements for the structural design of water supply pipelines, drains and sewers, and other water industry pipelines, whether operating at atmospheric, greater or lesser pressure.
Since precise details of types of soil and installation conditions are not always available at the design stage, the choice of design assumptions is left to the engineer's judgement. In this connection, the guide can only provide general indications and advice.
Who is BS EN 1295-1 - Buried pipelines general requirements for?
BS EN 1295-1 on the structural design of buried pipelines is useful for:
- Designers of buried pipelines
- Civil engineers
- Geoscientists
Why should you use BS EN 1295-1 - Buried pipelines general requirements?
The structural design of buried pipelines constitutes a wide-ranging and complex field of engineering, which has been the subject of extensive study and research, in many countries over a period of very many years.
BS EN 1295-1 navigates you through the installation terms for trenches with vertical or sloping sides and pipes laid below embankments.
BS EN 1295-1 provides the requirements for the structural design of pipelines and gives the basic principles of the nationally established methods of design.
BS EN 1295-1 gives guidance on the application of the nationally established methods of design declared by and used in CEN member countries at the time of preparation of this document.
Design philosophies and factors of safety of buried pipelines are specified in BS EN 1295-1.
Overall, BS EN 1295-1 could help you design pipelines that enable a variety of pipes to be assessed for the suitability of their structural performance when buried in trenches or embankments ensuring strength or elasticity of pipes.
