What is BS EN 13012 about?
BS EN 13012 specifies safety and environmental requirements for the construction and performance of nozzles. Nozzles are fitted to metering pumps and dispensers installed at filling stations. They are used to dispense liquid fuels and aqueous urea solution into the tanks of motor vehicles, boats, and light aircraft and into portable containers. BS EN 13012 will ensure the performance of the nozzle and prevent risk to the user.
BS EN 13012 applies to fuels of subdivision Group IIA according to ISO/IEC 80079-20-1 and also aqueous urea solution according to ISO 22241-1. The requirements apply to automatic nozzles dispensing liquid at ambient temperatures from −20 °C to +40 °C with the possibility for an extended temperature range.
Note: BS EN 13012 does not apply to equipment dispensing compressed or liquefied gases.
Note: BS EN 13012 does not include any requirements for metering performance. Vapour recovery efficiency rates are not covered.
Who is BS EN 13012 for?
BS EN 16351 on construction and performance of automatic nozzles for use on fuel dispensers is beneficial for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of dispenser nozzles
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS EN 13012?
The surfaces and mechanisms of the nozzle which, in normal operation, come into contact with the operator shall be such that they present no risk of injury. Materials likely to come into contact with fuels, both in liquid and vapour phases, shall be resistant to attack by these fuels. BS EN 13012 provides test method to confirm the materials used in the construction of nozzles are chemically and dimensionally stable under known service conditions. BS EN 13012 provides test methods to determine the performance that helps to confirm that the nozzles manufactured are safe and of good quality which adheres to standard regulations.
