What is BS EN 13032-5- Luminaires used for road lighting about?
BS EN 13032 is a European Standard that discusses light and lighting.
BS EN 13032-5 is the fifth part of the series that defines the presentation of utilances or utilization factors respectively for luminaires used for road lighting.
Who is BS EN 13032-5- Luminaires used for road lighting for?
BS EN 13032-5 on photometric data of lamps and luminaires is applicable to:
- Street lighting equipment manufacturers
- Product design engineers
- Quality testing authorities
- Electrical engineers
- Public road safety authorities
Why should you use BS EN 13032-5- Luminaires used for road lighting?
The Eco-design Directive 2009/125/EC requires a reduction of energy consumption of fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, for high intensity discharge lamps, for LED light sources, and for ballasts and luminaires able to operate such lamps and light sources.
Utilance is a measurement of the efficiency of the luminous intensity distribution of a luminaire to spread its luminous flux onto a specified surface provided other quality requirements of EN 13201 series are met.
BS EN 13032-5 specifies the presentation of tables of utilances and utilization factors of luminaires used for road lighting. The knowledge of the utilance road lighting can be helpful for the calculation of the installation luminous efficacy.
BS EN 13032-5 enables you to calculate average illuminances and edge illuminance ratios regardless of the luminaire spacing, mounting height, overhang, or tilt of the road lighting arrangement.
If you are a product design engineer, BS EN 13032-5 can assist you with enhancing and optimizing the performance of luminaries by demonstrating whether they or not they are fit for purpose. As a result, enhanced visibility and adequate luminary intensity distribution can be achieved.
