What is BS EN 13523-26 – Coil coated metals about?
BS EN 13523-26 is a European standard and a part of the BS EN 13523 series that discusses the resistance to condensation of water for coil coated metals.
BS EN 13523-26 specifies a procedure for evaluating the resistance to continuous condensation of an organic coating on a metallic substrate, using exposure in a humidity cabinet under controlled conditions.
Who is BS EN 13523-26 – Coil coated metals for?
BS EN 13523-26 on coil coated metals applies to:
- Manufacturer of coil coating for metals
- Electrical engineers
- Quality testing personnel
Why should you use BS EN 13523-26 – Coil coated metals?
Coil-coated metal also called prepainted metal, has more durability, as it is more resistant to corrosion than most post-painted metals.
BS EN 13523-26 provides you with a method that helps you calculate the resistance to continuous condensation of an organic coating on a metallic substrate. It states that a test panel is exposed to continuous water condensation for a pre-determined time, at a specified temperature. These test panels help you in evaluating any changes such as blistering or corrosion, e.g., red rust, or white rust. It can also guide the users in examining the changes in colour and/or gloss are evaluated as well.
Overall, with BS EN 13523-26 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 13523-26:2022 supersedes BS EN 13523-26:2014, which is withdrawn. It includes:
- EN ISO 3696 has been added to 6.1 as a reference for the deionized water
- A remark concerning the assessment of organic coated steel substrates having multiple metallic phases in the zinc-based coating has been added to Clause 10
- The list of the existing parts of EN 13523 has been updated
- The text has been editorially revised and the normative references have been updated.
