What is BS EN 14504- Floating landing stages and floating bridges about?
BS EN 14504 is a European standard that discusses floating establishments for inland navigation vessels.
BS EN 14504 specifies safety requirements for floating landing stages and floating bridges for passenger transport and their equipment.
The main objective of BS EN 14504 is to ensure safe and reliable floating establishments for loading and unloading of people along with efficient berthing and mooring of vessels for passenger travel.
Note: Requirements for facilities for supply and waste disposals for vessels using these floating landing stages are not covered by BS EN 14504.
Note: BS EN 14504 is not applicable to:
- Floating landing stages for motor vehicle traffic
- Floating landing stages for recreational craft and inland navigation craft that are not vessels, e.g., floating equipment
- More severe requirements for floating landing stages used for the transshipment of dangerous goods
- Any gangway required between the vessel and floating landing stage
- Specialized floating structures that are not used for passenger traffic or the berthing of vessels.
Who is BS EN 14504- Floating landing stages and floating bridges for?
BS EN 14504 on floating landing stages and floating bridges on inland waters is relevant to:
- Manufacturers and designers of floating landing stages and floating bridges
- Quality control and testing authorities
- Product design engineers
- Architects and contractors
- Marine industry
- Port/coastal authorities
Why should you use BS EN 14504 - Floating landing stages and floating bridges?
Floating landing stages and floating bridges enable the safe onloading and offloading of people and goods as well as mooring and berthing of vessels for passenger travel.
BS EN 14504 provides you with the necessary requirements to ensure floating establishments exhibit the necessary levels of strength, buoyancy and durability.
BS EN 14504 also covers recommendations for anchorages, materials, and equipment as well as structural requirements for optimal functional capability of the floating establishment.
As a result, compliance with BS EN 14504 requirements can help establish high-performance, reliable and safe floating establishments that can withstand the impact of currents, wind, waves, fluctuations in water level and loads.
