What BS EN 14596- Emergency pressure relief valve about?
BS EN 14596 covers the emergency pressure relief valve of tanks for the transport of dangerous goods.
BS EN 14596 specifies the performance requirements and the critical dimensions of the emergency pressure relief valve.
BS EN 14596 specifies the tests necessary to verify the compliance of the equipment with it.
The service equipment specified by BS EN 14596 is suitable for use with liquid petroleum products and other dangerous substances of Class 3 of ADR [2] which have a vapour pressure not exceeding110 kPa at 50 °C and petrol, and which have no sub-classification as toxic or corrosive.
Who is BS EN 14596- Emergency pressure relief valve for?
BS EN 14596 on emergency pressure relief valve for tanks for the transport of dangerous goods is useful for:
- Tanks manufacturing companies
- Dangerous goods transportation companies
- Road transportation regulation department
Why should you use BS EN 14596- Emergency pressure relief valve?
BS EN 14596 helps the manufacturers with the guidance on service equipment for tanks that transport dangerous goods.
BS EN 14596 enables the users to make good quality emergency pressure relief valve that allows the venting from a tank compartment during excess pressure. The emergency pressure relief valve performs the closing and opening functions of a fill hole cover.
The emergency pressure relief valve is fitted to gravity discharge tanks and should not be considered as a pressure tank safety valve.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 14596:2018 supersedes BS EN 14596:2005. BS EN 14596:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 14596:2005. These include:
- Introduction and relieving pressure changed to reflect the change in ADR tank classification from low pressure tanks to gravity discharge tanks
- A note regarding weather protection
- A vapour venting performance test has been added
- The keeping period for test results clarified
- Drop test rig, (Annex A), dimensions of sand boxes improved
