What is BS EN 14617-11 - Linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones about?
BS EN 14617 is a European Standard for testing agglomerated stone products. The main aim of the BS EN 14617 series is to provide manufacturers with best industry practices to ensure the agglomerated stone is fit for its intended use.
BS EN 14617-11 is the 11th part of the BS EN 14617 series that specifies a test method to determine the linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones used for internal/external flooring or walling in the building.
Who is BS EN 14617-11 - Linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones for?
BS EN 14617-11 on linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones is useful for:
- Construction and mineral material and product manufacturers
- Manufacturers and designers of agglomerated stone products
- Entities involved with masonry work
- Engineers
- Architects
- Contractors
Why should you use BS EN 14617-11 - Linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones?
The coefficient of linear thermal expansion is a material property that is indicative of the extent to which a material expands upon heating.
The principle of the determination of the linear thermal expansion coefficient consists of measuring the variation in the length of a sample of agglomerated stone during a temperature change. The temperature change is achieved by heating or cooling the sample through a programmed cycle. A suitable dilatometer measures the expansion or the shrinkage of the sample, relatively to the initial length.
In this regard, BS EN 14617-11 provides the apparatus requirements, dimensions of the test specimens and test procedure to determine the linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stone.
BS EN 14617-11 covers the reference test method to calculate theoretically the linear thermal expansion coefficient of agglomerated stones containing big size grits (> 6 mm).
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of agglomerated stone products, complying with BS EN 14617-11 can help demonstrate the performance and credibility of your product, ensuring that they are fit for purpose.
