What is BS EN 14700 - Welding consumables for hard-facing about?
BS EN 14700 is a European Standard that specifies requirements for classification of the consumables based on the chemical composition of all weld metal of covered electrodes, cored wires, cored rods, cored strips, sintered strips, sintered rods, and metal powders and the chemical composition of solid wires, solid rods, solid strips, and cast rods.
BS EN 14700 applies to the welding consumables for hard facing. The range of applications includes surfaces of new structural components, semi-finished products as well as repair of surfaces of structural components which have to resist mechanical, chemical, thermal, or combined stress.
Who is BS EN 14700 - Welding consumables for hard-facing for?
BS EN 14700 on welding consumables for hard facing is relevant for:
- Welding consumable manufacturers
- Welding industries
- Steel industry
- Building and construction industry
Why should you use BS EN 14700 - Welding consumables for hard-facing?
Hard facing is the deposition of thick coatings of hard, wear-resistant materials on a worn or new component surface that is subject to wear in service. Welding processes are generally used to apply the hard facing layer.
BS EN 14700 provides you with chemical composition, rounding off procedures, alloy types, a form of supply, requirements and applications and technical delivery conditions for classification of the consumables.
BS EN 14700 assists in standardizing the requirements for consumable classification based on the chemical composition of all weld metal of covered electrodes to eliminate the ambiguity in the selection of consumables for hard-facing welding.
With compliance and obedience to requirements under BS EN 14700, you can easily classify your welding hard-facing products.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 14700:2014 supersedes BS EN 14700:2005 which has been withdrawn. BS EN 14700:2014 includes some changes with reference to BS EN 14700:2005. These include:
- The classification is now divided into two compulsory parts and 3 optional parts
- Addition of Designation of the typical composition
- A symbol for the range of hardness has been added
- The symbol for the auxiliary material has been added
- “Form of supply of consumables and applicable processes for hard-facing” the welding processes are updated according to EN ISO 4063:2010
