What is BS EN 15004-7-Gas extinguishing systems IG-01 extinguishant about?
BS EN 15004 is a European Standard on gaseous extinguishing media and systems that are a part of fixed firefighting systems. The main objective of the BS EN 15004 series is to ensure gas extinguishing systems’ performance plays a positive role during a fire emergency.
BS EN 15004-7 is the seventh part of the multi-series that specifies requirements for gaseous fire-extinguishing systems, with respect to the IG-01 extinguishant. It includes details of physical properties, specification, usage, and safety aspects.
BS EN 15004-7 is applicable for systems operating at nominal pressures of 160 bar, 200 bar, and 300 bar at 15 °C. This does not preclude the use of other systems, although design data for other pressures are not available at this time.
Who is BS EN 15004-7- Gas extinguishing systems IG-01 extinguishant for?
BS EN 15004-7 on gas extinguishing systems for IG-01 extinguishant is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of fixed firefighting equipment
- Manufacturers of gas extinguishing systems
- Product designers
- Entities involved in fire safety engineering
- Fire safety department
Why should you use BS EN 15004-7- Gas extinguishing systems IG-01 extinguishant?
A gas extinguishing system is a fire extinguishing system that extinguishes the fire with the help of a gaseous extinguishing agent through oxygen displacement.
BS EN 15004-7 provides guidelines on system design, including physical properties of extinguishing system, use of IG-01 systems, the safety of personnel, extinguishant quantity and environmental properties.
BS EN 15004-7 is helpful as the adoption of these requirements and specifications can aid in protecting safety personnel from hazards arising from:
- The extinguishant itself
- The combustion products of the fire
Compliance with BS EN 15004-7 is beneficial as the properties, design, performance requirements and environmental guidelines enable you to establish efficient firefighting systems during hazardous situations, that are devoid of product failures, and contribute to a successful fire response.
