What is BS EN 15153‑4 about?
BS EN 15153‑4 is the fourth part of the BS EN 15153 series of documents that defines the functional and technical requirements for exterior audible warning devices for urban rail vehicles as defined in the CEN-CENELEC Guide 26, i.e. metro systems, trams, light rail, and local rail systems.
BS EN 15153-4 also defines the requirements for testing and conformity assessment.
Who is BS EN 15153‑4 for?
BS EN 15153‑4 on audible warning devices for urban rail is useful for:
- Railway engineers
- Railway operator
- Manufacturers of audible warning devices and signal devices
Why should you use BS EN 15153‑4?
Audible warning devices are required at all automatic crossings and barrier crossings operated by railway staff so that pedestrians on or approaching the crossing are given adequate warning of the closure of the crossing.
BS EN 15153‑4 provides the general requirements for an audible warning signal for urban rail vehicles used for long-range warning, medium-range warning, and short-range warning.
BS EN 15153‑4 provides guidance on the devices used for alerting/drawing attention at short range such as soft bell – single sound, soft bell – recurring sound, whistle(s), and warning horn.
Also gives the test requirements on the acoustic characteristics of the audible warning device under test.
Overall, BS EN 15153‑4 helps you to manufacture and test railway audible warning devices which can be used to attract the attention of train drivers for running and stopping vehicles to operate as an effective safety system.
