What is BS EN 15316-4-5 - Energy performance of buildings about?
BS EN 15316 discusses the energy performance of buildings. BS EN 15316-4-5 belongs to BS EN 15316 multi-series and discusses district heating and cooling, and modules M3-8-5, M4-8-5, M8-8-5, M11-8-5.
BS EN 15316-4-5 defines the determination of energy indicators of district energy systems. District energy systems may be district heating, district cooling, or other district energy carriers.
Who is BS EN 15316-4-5 - Energy performance of buildings for?
BS EN 15316-4-5 on the energy performance of buildings (heat generation systems, building-integrated cogeneration systems) is useful for:
- Architects
- Heater manufacturers
- Civil engineers
- Design engineers
- HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) engineers
- Builders
Why should you use BS EN 15316-4-5 - Energy performance of buildings?
BS EN 15316-4-5 is part of a series of standards aiming at international harmonization of the methodology for the assessment of the energy performance of buildings, called the “set of EPB standards.
BS EN 15316-4-5 provides you with the calculation of indicators that characterize district energy systems. The majority of district energy systems in Europe are district heating systems, but the basic principles will also be applied to other energy carriers, e.g., district cooling. The indicators are required for the calculation of the energy performance of buildings that are connected to district energy systems.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 1531645:2017 supersedes BS EN 15316-4-5:2007, which is withdrawn. BS EN 1531645:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 15316-4-5:2007. These include:
- Informative content was removed to the accompanying Technical Report CEN/TR 1531668
- Provisions now also cover other energy carriers than heat
- Annex B contains a set of default values for energy flows and carriers that are specific for district heating systems and are thus not covered by the building-specific standards
