What is BS EN 15332- Heating boilers storage tanks energy assessment about?
BS EN 15332 discusses heating boilers. Boilers are special-purpose water heaters. While furnaces carry heat in warm air, boiler systems distribute the heat in hot water, which gives up heat as it passes through radiators or other devices in rooms throughout the house.
The cooler water then returns to the boiler to be reheated. Hot water systems are often called hydronic systems. Residential boilers generally use natural gas or heating oil for fuel. BS EN 15332 specifies a method for the energy assessment of domestic/sanitary hot water storage tanks of up to 2000L.
Note 1: BS EN 15332 does not cover water heaters intended primarily for direct heating, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.
Note 2: Primary heating buffer tanks are not covered by BS EN 15332. Heat losses of domestic hot water storage tanks integrated into combi boilers marketed as a single unit are not covered by BS EN 15332.
Who is BS EN 15332- Heating boilers storage tanks energy assessment for?
BS EN 15332 on heating boilers (hot water storage tanks) is useful for:
- Boiler manufacturers
- Heater manufacturers
- Storage tank manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 15332- Heating boilers storage tanks energy assessment?
Boilers produce heat by burning fuel (typically gas), the thermal energy from which is used to heat water through a heat exchange process.
BS EN 15332 provides you with a test to assess the energy efficiency of domestic/sanitary hot water storage tanks of up to 2000L. The test method includes requirements on the test rig and measurements.
BS EN 15332 helps you with determining the energy efficiency of hot water storage tanks.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 15332:2019 supersedes BS EN 15332:2007, which is withdrawn. BS EN 15332:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 15332:2007. These include:
- Scope was updated
