What is BS EN 15633‑1- Detection of food allergens in foodstuffs about?
BS EN 15633 discusses foodstuffs. BS EN 15633‑1 is an international standard on the general considerations for the determination of food allergens in foodstuffs.
BS EN 15633‑1 is the first part of the BS EN 15633 series that provides an overall framework covering qualitative and quantitative methods for the determination of food allergens and allergenic ingredients using antibody-based methods in foods.
BS EN 15633‑1 specifies general guidelines and performance criteria for antibody-based methods for the detection and quantification of proteins that serve as markers for the presence of allergy-provoking foods or food ingredients.
Note: BS EN 15633‑1 could also apply to other sample types where the same principles for method validation and verification would apply.
Who is BS EN 15633‑1- Detection of food allergens in foodstuffs for?
BS EN 15633‑1 on food allergens detection in foodstuffs is useful for:
- Food scientists
- Food laboratories
- Food technologists
- Food health and safety departments
Why should you use BS EN 15633‑1- Detection of food allergens in foodstuffs?
A specific protein or group of proteins or peptides deriving from these proteins can serve as a marker for the presence of food or food ingredients provoking allergic reactions.
BS EN 15633‑1 provides you with immunoblotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to detect food allergens in foodstuffs.
The test methods and procedures provided by BS EN 15633‑1 assist you to qualitatively detect or quantitate protein-derived analytes or proteins/peptides or proteinaceous entities in foodstuffs that cause an immediate allergic reaction in a susceptible person.
BS EN 15633‑1 assist in obtaining reproducible results when conducting onsite food testing or by different analysts in private and official control laboratories.
By adopting BS EN 15633‑1 the user can enhance the safety of foodstuffs by detecting food allergens to prevent them.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN 15633‑1:2019 supersedes EN 15633-1:2009. BS EN 15633‑1:2019, which is withdrawn. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are:
- Updated terms and definitions (clause 3)
