What is BS EN 15634‑1- General considerations to detect food allergens in foodstuffs about?
BS EN 15634 discusses foodstuffs. BS EN 15634‑1 is a European standard on general considerations to determine food allergens by molecular biological methods in foodstuffs.
BS EN 15634‑1 is the first part of the BS EN 15634 series that provides the overall framework for the detection of sequences corresponding to species containing allergens using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
BS EN 15634‑1 relates to the requirements for the specific amplification of target nucleic acid sequences (DNA) and the confirmation of the identity of the amplified nucleic acid sequence.
BS EN 15634‑1 details the procedure to qualitatively detect and/or quantitate DNA fragments as markers for potentially allergenic ingredients or constituents by analyzing the nucleic acids extracted from the sample under study.
BS EN 15634‑1 is intended to be used in addition to EN 15842.
Who is BS EN 15634‑1- General considerations to detect food allergens in foodstuffs for?
BS EN 15634‑1 on general considerations to detect food allergens in foodstuffs are useful for:
- Food scientists
- Food technologists
- Food laboratories
- Food safety and health departments
Why should you use BS EN 15634‑1- General considerations to detect food allergens in foodstuffs?
Medical diagnosis is used to find out which foods cause an individual to have an allergic reaction to strictly avoid those foods are important ways to prevent serious adverse health effects.
BS EN 15634‑1 provides you with requirements and procedures to detect food allergens by molecular biological methods. Appropriate procedures for the extraction of nucleic acids are included in each method.
The methods, procedures and requirements provided by BS EN 15634‑1 are intended to ensure that comparable and reproducible results are obtained in different laboratories.
By adopting BS EN 15634‑1 the user can enhance the foodstuffs to prevent severe food allergies.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 15634‑1:2019 supersedes EN 15634‑1:2009. BS EN 15634‑1:2019 has some technical changes. These include:
- Updated terms and definitions
- Requirements regarding the preparation of samples have changed
- DNA quantitation has changed along with primer design
- Requirements regarding quantitation of PCR products (8.2) has changed
