What is BS EN 17263- Eddy current testing about?
BS EN 17263 is a European standard on copper and copper alloys that discusses the criteria for eddy current testing. BS EN 17263 specifies a procedure for fully automatic eddy current testing with no operator involvement with an encircling test coil for detecting defects on the surface of copper and copper alloy rods, bars, hollow rods, and wires with a minimum diameter or width across flats defined in the relevant product standards.
NOTE 1: This test method can be continuous or discontinuous depending on the product.
NOTE 2: The product size range and test acceptance level are defined in the relevant product standards.
Who is BS EN 17263- Eddy current testing for?
BS EN 17263 on eddy current testing is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of copper rods, bars, wires, and other products
- Laboratories and research centers
Why should you use BS EN 17263- Eddy current testing?
Eddy current testing is a non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection method used for a variety of purposes, including flaw detection, material and coating thickness measurements, material identification, and establishing the heat treatment condition of certain materials.
BS EN 17263 navigates you through the eddy current test equipment, test layout, nominal frequency, detection of single local discontinuity by encircling coil systems, detection of several local surface effects by encircling coil systems by using low signal amplitudes as detection threshold.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 17263, you can detect defects located on or near the surface in copper and copper alloy rods, bars, hollow rods, and wires in a non-destructive way.
With BS EN 17263 you can detect significant discontinuities of the short abrupt type (typical defects e.g. cracks, laps, fins, shells, rolled-in matter) by the differential method with encircling test coils. Overall with BS EN 17263, you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
