What is BS EN 196-11 - Heat of hydration of cement about?
Cement is used to bind sand and gravel together to produce concrete.
BS EN 196-11 is a multi-series part of the European standard which discusses the testing of cement. BS EN 196-11 specifies the apparatus and procedure for determining the heat of hydration of cement and other hydraulic binders at different test ages by isothermal conduction calorimetry.
BS EN 196-11 is intended for measuring the heat of hydration of cement up to 7days to obtain correspondence between Isothermal Conduction Calorimetry (ICC). The method described in BS EN 196-11 gives the heat of hydration continuously over time, along with the heat flow versus time is given.
Who is BS EN 196-11 - Heat of hydration of cement for?
BS EN 196-11 on the heat of hydration of cement is useful for:
- Manufacturers of cement
- Retailers and suppliers of cement
- Testing of cement
- Quality management teams
Why should you use BS EN 196-11 - Heat of hydration of cement?
An isothermal conduction calorimeter is an apparatus able to measure the heat flow generated by a sample kept at a constant temperature. Constant temperature condition is applied by maintaining the sample in thermal contact with a heat sink.
BS EN 196-11 walks you through the Isothermal Conduction Calorimetry method, guiding on:
- Thermostat
- Calorimeter technical parameters
- Steady-state calibration
- Pulse calibration
- Improvement of the common calibration procedure
- Repeatability
- Reproducibility
Using BS EN 196-11 guidelines, you can assess the heat of hydration of cement, so that end-users get a superior quality product.
