What is BS EN 197‑5 about?
BS EN 197‑5 is the fifth part in the multi-series of European standard BS EN 197 on cement.
BS EN 197-5 deals with Portland-composite cement CEM II/C-M, not covered by EN 197-1, and a different type of Composite cement CEM VI, also not covered by EN 197-1, whose intended use is the preparation of concrete, mortar, grout etc.
BS EN 197‑5 does not cover:
- Common cement
- Very low heat special cement
- Supersulfated cement
- Calcium aluminate cement
- Masonry cement
Who is BS EN 197‑5 for?
BS EN 197‑5 on cement types is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of concrete, mortar, grout
- Builders
- Contractors
- Civil engineers
Why should you use BS EN 197-5?
Portland cement is an excellent building material generally used for its excellent binding properties, giving strength to structural elements as they are suitable for producing alkaline and sulfate corrosion-resistant concrete. BS EN 197‑5 provides you with the performance tests that help determine setting time, strength, soundness and heat of hydration.
BS EN 197-5 provides test method that is necessary for the choice of cement, especially the type and/or strength class to ensure durability depending on exposure class and type of construction.
Constituents of cement and the composition of Portland-composite cement CEM II/C-M and composite cement CEM VI are covered by BS EN 197-5 that gives you the conformity of cement for the construction.
Adopting these BS EN 197-5 compliant test methods helps recognize the properties, performance and types of cement that imparts strength and durability to the composite cement, and ultimately to the end-use application.
