What is BS EN 480-15 - Method for testing viscosity modifying admixtures about?
BS EN 480 is a European standard that discusses test methods for admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout. The main aim of the BS EN 480 series is to provide the best industry guidance to ensure construction materials contribute to the structural integrity of your civil engineering works.
BS EN 480-15 is the 15th part of the BS EN 480 series that specifies the constituent materials, the composition and the mix procedure to produce a reference concrete with a prescribed consistency and segregated portion for testing viscosity modifying admixtures as defined in EN 934-2.
BS EN 480-15 also describes how to determine the requirements for the test mix in comparison with the control mix.
Who is BS EN 480-15 - Method for testing viscosity modifying admixtures for?
BS EN 480-15 on admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout is useful for:
- Manufacturers of admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout
- Quality control and testing personnel
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
- Concrete specialists
Why should you use BS EN 480-15 - Method for testing viscosity modifying admixtures?
Viscosity modifying admixtures are water-soluble polymers that raise the viscosity of mixing water and improve cement paste's capacity to keep its constituents suspended. These securing high-performance cement pastes are very fluid while being cohesive enough to decrease water dilution and improve water retention.
BS EN 480-15 provides the measure of constituent materials used for making concrete, mortar and grout, along with recommendations on the preparation of reference concrete for testing viscosity modifying admixtures.
As a result, manufacturers can ensure the quality of concrete throughout mixing, transportation, placement, and curing, as well as overcome specific emergencies during concrete operations, evaluate concrete performance and demonstrate the ability of materials to contribute to the stability and structural integrity of your construction works.
Overall, BS EN 480-15-compliant viscosity modifying admixtures can be effective in stabilizing the rheological properties and consistency of concrete used for construction purposes.
