What is BS EN 50500 - Magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment about?
BS EN 50500 discusses magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment with respect to human exposure.
The scope of BS EN 50500 is limited to apparatus, systems, and fixed installations that are intended for use in the railway environment. The frequency range covered is 0 Hz to 300 GHz.
Technical considerations and measurements are necessary for frequencies up to 20 kHz because no relevant field strengths are expected above due to the physical nature of EMF sources in the railway environment.
The object of BS EN 50500 is to provide measurement and calculation procedures of electric and magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment with respect to human exposure.
The measurement procedures and points of measurement also cover the aspect of persons bearing active implantable medical devices.
Note 1: Does not cover are personal electronic devices (e.g., mobile phones, notebooks, wireless communication systems, etc.) of passengers and workers.
Note 2: Does not cover are intentional transmitters with frequencies higher than 20 kHz.
Who is BS EN 50500 - Magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment for?
BS EN 50500 on magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment is useful for:
- Staff in railways for electronic and electrical apparatus that generates magnetic field
- Test centres
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS EN 50500 - Magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment?
The regulations regarding the protection of human beings during exposure to non-ionizing electromagnetic fields in the railway environment are different within the countries of the European Community. BS EN 50500 offers a procedure regarding measurement, simulation, and evaluation.
BS EN 50500 guide assists you with measure procedures for rolling stock, fixed installation, test conditions, and test environment for measurement procedures of magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment. BS EN 50500 provides measurement techniques on frequency range, measurement equipment, evaluation methods, and measurement execution for measuring magnetic field levels generated by electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment with respect to human exposure.
BS EN 50500 will support you to standardize operating conditions and to fix measuring/calculation distances for electronic and electrical apparatus in the railway environment with respect to human exposure. In addition, encourage you to establish a suitable measuring/calculation method for determining the magnetic fields in the space around the equipment.
