What is BS EN 572-1 - Soda‑lime silicate glass products about?
BS EN 572-1 is part one of a multi-series of European standards on glass in building which covers basic soda‑lime silicate glass products.
BS EN 572-1 specifies and classifies basic glass products and indicates their chemical composition, their main physical and mechanical characteristics and defines their general quality criteria.
Who is BS EN 572-1 - Soda‑lime silicate glass products for?
BS EN 572-1 on soda‑lime silicate glass products is useful for:
- Soda‑lime silicate glass products manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
Why should you use BS EN 572-1 - Soda‑lime silicate glass products?
Soda–lime glass, also called soda–lime–silica glass, is the most prevalent type of glass, used for windowpanes and glass containers (bottles and jars) for beverages, food, and some commodity items. Some glass bakeware is made of soda-lime glass, as opposed to the more common borosilicate glass. Soda–lime glass accounts for about 90% of manufactured glass.
Soda–lime glass is relatively inexpensive, chemically stable, reasonably hard, and extremely workable. Because it can be resoftened and remelted numerous times, it is ideal for glass recycling. It is used in preference to chemically-pure silica, which is silicon dioxide (SiO2), otherwise known as fused quartz.
With the help of BS EN 572-1, you can increase efficiency in your organization and also make sure that the quality is up to mark, this is made possible as BS EN 572-1 specifies and classifies basic glass products and indicates their chemical composition, their main physical and mechanical characteristics and defines their general quality criteria.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 572-1:2012+A1:2016 supersedes BS EN 572-1:2012 which is withdrawn. BS EN 572-1:2012+A1:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 572-1:2012. These are:
- A better explanation of the characteristic bending strength of glass
- An extension of the minimum light transmittance value for translucent glass up to 19 mm
- The bibliography has been complemented
