What is BS EN 59 - Indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics about?
Glass-reinforced plastics are extremely versatile due to their light weight, inherent strength, weather resistance and variety of textures.
BS EN 59 specifies a method for determining the indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics materials by means of a Barcol hardness tester.
The Barcol hardness tester is a portable device which can be used with a stand. This method is suitable for testing the indentation hardness of individual test specimens or finished products for production control purposes.
Who is BS EN 59 - Indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics for?
BS EN 59 on indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics is useful for manufacturing companies associated with:
- Storage tanks
- House building
- Oil and gas artificial lift systems
- Piping
Why should you use BS EN 59 - Indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics?
Glass reinforced plastics are non-magnetic, non-conductive and transparent to electromagnetic radiation. They can be moulded into complex shapes as they are more flexible than carbon fibre but they are also stronger than many metals.
BS EN 59 walks you through the process to determine the indentation hardness of glass reinforced plastics by guiding you with:
- Principles
- Apparatus
- Test specimens
- Calibration
- Conditioning and testing atmospheres
- Procedure
- Number of measurements
- Exposure report
The guidelines in BS EN 59 help you to determine the strength of the material so that it is your customers have access to superior quality products.
