What is BS EN 60269-4‒ Low-voltage fuses about?
BS EN 60269-4 is the fourth part of an international multi-series standard that covers guidelines for low-voltage fuses.
BS EN 60269-4 applies with the following supplementary requirements. These supplementary requirements apply to fuse-links for application in equipment containing semiconductor devices for circuits of nominal voltages up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC and also, in so far as they are applicable, for circuits of higher nominal voltages.
BS EN 60269-4 provides guidelines and limits that are usually acceptable for quality control purposes by large-scale users and manufacturers of low voltage fuse-links. It gives specifications like terms, definitions, conditions for operation in service, classification, characteristics of fuses, markings, standard conditions for construction, and tests as well for low voltage fuse-links.
Who is BS EN 60269-4‒ Low-voltage fuses for?
BS EN 60269-4 on low-voltage fuses for special applications is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of low-voltage fuses
- Dealers and distributors of low-voltage fuses
- Designers of low-voltage fuses
- Test/ service providers for low-voltage fuses
Why should you use BS EN 60269-4‒ Low-voltage fuses?
The low-voltage fuse has the ability to open a circuit under an overcurrent condition. The voltage rating investigates the ability of the fuse to suppress the internal arcing that occurs after a fuse link melts and an arc is produced.
BS EN 60269-4 gives you the supplementary requirements of low voltage fuses to provide safety to the semiconductors. It helps you establish the characteristics of semiconductor fuse-links in a way that they can be replaced by other fuse-links having the same characteristics, provided that their dimensions are identical.
BS EN 60269-4 serves the purpose to refer the particular characteristics of fuses like rated values, the temperature rises in normal service, power dissipation, time-current characteristics, breaking capacity, cut-off current characteristics, and I2t characteristics to design and manufacture high efficient low voltage fuses.
BS EN 60269-4 gives the arc voltage characteristics and type tests for verification of the characteristics of low voltage fuse to improve their reliability and functionality. It also guides you for the markings on fuses as well as the availability and presentation of technical data.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 60269-4:2009+A2:2016 supersedes BS EN 60269-4:2009+A1:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN 60269-4:2009+A2:2016 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous editions:
- The introduction of voltage source inverter fuse-links, including test requirements
- Coverage of the tests on operating characteristics for AC by the breaking capacity tests
- The updating of examples of standardized fuse-links for the protection of semiconductor devices
