What is BS EN 60332-1-1 – Electric and optical fibre cables about?
BS EN 60332-1-1 is an international standard that discusses the test for vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire or cable for electric and optical fibre cable. A fibre-optic cable is composed of very thin strands of glass or plastic known as optical fibres; one cable can have as few as two strands or as many as several hundreds of them.
BS EN 60332-1-1 specifies the test apparatus for testing the resistance to vertical flame propagation for a single vertical electrical insulated conductor or cable, or optical fibre cable, under fire conditions.
Who is BS EN 60332-1-1 – Electric and optical fibre cables for?
BS EN 60332-1-1 on electric and optical fibre cable applies to:
- Manufacturer of fibre optic cable
- Electrical engineer
- Quality testing personnel
- Suppliers and distributors of fibre optic cable
Why should you use BS EN 60332-1-1 – Electric and optical fibre cables?
An insulation resistance (IR) test measures the resistance to current flow across it on a completed cable; it applies a test voltage to determine how effective the insulation is in preventing the flow of electric current out of the insulation.
BS EN 60332-1-1 provides you with a vertical flame propagation test device that creates an aflame with a combination of air and propane gas, and applies the flame onto the cable sample for a determined period, according to the cable’s outer diameter.
With Obedience and compliance to BS EN 60332-1-1 can ensure the safety and durability of the cables.
