What is BS EN 60332-1-3 - Fire testing optical fibre and electrical cable standard about?
A fiber-optic cable, also known as an optical-fiber cable, is an assembly similar to an electrical cable, but containing one or more optical fibers that are used to carry light. The optical fiber elements are typically individually coated with plastic layers and contained in a protective tube suitable for the environment where the cable is used.
BS EN 60332-1-3 specifies a test procedure for assessment of falling flaming droplets/ particles when a single vertical electrical insulated conductor or cable, or optical fibre cable, is subjected to defined fire conditions.
Note: Testing to IEC 60332-1-3 may be performed simultaneously with that to IEC
Who is BS EN 60332-1-3 - Fire testing optical fibre and electrical cable standard for?
BS EN 60332-1-3 on fire testing optical fibre and electrical cable standard is useful for:
- Manufacturers of electric cables
- Manufacturers of optical fibre cables
- Concerned maintenance teams
- Product development / innovation / research teams
- Quality control teams
Why should you use BS EN 60332-1-3 - Fire testing optical fibre and electrical cable standard?
Fire hazards are a part and parcel of electric and optical fibre cables during their lifetime. BS EN 60332-1-3 specifies the use of a 1 kW pre-mixed flame and is for general use, except that the procedure specified may not be suitable for the testing of small single insulated conductors or cables of less than 0,5 mm2 total cross-section because the conductor melts before the test is completed, or for the testing of small optical fibre cables because the cable is broken before the test is completed.
BS EN 60332-1-3 provides specific guidelines on test apparatus and procedure in addition to evaluation of test results. Using BS EN 60332-1-3 guidelines, you can test and assess falling flaming droplets/ particles when a single vertical electrical insulated conductor or cable, or optical fibre cable, is subjected to defined fire conditions. BS EN 60332-1-3 enables you to provide your customers with suitable, reliable and high-quality products.
