What is BS EN 60512-5-1 - Assessing the current-carrying capacity of connectors about?
Electrical connectors are used to join electrical conductors to create an electrical circuit. BS EN 60512-5-1, when required by the detail specification, is used for testing electromechanical components within the scope of IEC technical committee 48. This test may also be used for similar devices when specified in a detailed specification.
The object of BS EN 60512-5-1 is to detail a standard test method to assess the ability of a component to carry its specified current, at room temperature, without exceeding a specified temperature rise.
Who is BS EN 60512-5-1 - Assessing the current-carrying capacity of connectors for?
BS EN 60512-5-1 on assessing the current-carrying capacity of connectors is useful for:
- Manufacturers of electronic devices
- Maintenance and augmentation teams
- Companies associated with designing and installation of electronic devices
- Fault management teams
- Quality management teams
Why should you use BS EN 60512-5-1 - Assessing the current-carrying capacity of connectors?
Electronic equipment is used in applications that rely on mechanical or electric systems for their operation. They are essential to any work on electronics systems for creating signals and capturing responses from electronic devices. There are certain specifications regarding the performance of electronic equipment.
BS EN 60512-5-1 walks you through the test method of measuring the current-carrying capacity of connectors for electronic equipment. This includes:
- Wire size
- Wiring of specimen and type of termination
- Current, a.c. or d.c.
- Number of specimens, if necessary
- Number of contacts simultaneously undercurrent, if necessary
- Temperature rise, if necessary
The guidelines in BS EN 60512-5-1 help you assess the current-carrying capacity of connectors for electronic equipment that enable you to provide a superior quality product to your customers.
