What is BS EN 60645-5-Audiometric equipment for the measurement of aural acoustic impedance about?
BS EN 60645 is a European standard on electroacoustic that discusses the audiometric equipment for the measurement of aural acoustic impedance/admittance to improve the acoustical performance of audiometric equipment.
BS EN 60645-5 is the fifth part in the BS EN 60645 series that applies to instruments designed primarily for the measurement of acoustic impedance/admittance in the human external acoustic meatus using a stated probe tone. It is recognized that other probe signals may also be used.
BS EN 60645-5 defines the characteristics to be specified by the manufacturer, lays down performance specifications for three types of instruments and specifies the facilities to be provided on these types.
BS EN 60645-5 describes methods of test to be used for approval testing and guidance on methods for undertaking routine calibration.
The purpose of BS EN 60645-5 is to ensure that measurements made under comparable test conditions with different instruments complying with BS EN 60645-5 will be consistent.
Note: BS EN 60645-5 is not intended to restrict development or incorporation of new features, nor to discourage innovative approaches.
Who is BS EN 60645-5-Audiometric equipment for the measurement of aural acoustic impedance/admittance for?
BS EN 60645-5 on the audiometric equipment for the measurement of aural acoustic impedance/admittance is useful for:
- Audiometric equipment manufacturers
- Audiometric equipment test personnel
- Music studios
- Quality assurance departments
Why should you use BS EN 60645-5-Audiometric equipment for the measurement of aural acoustic impedance/admittance?
Developments in the field of diagnostic hearing measurement have resulted in several instruments designed to evaluate the acoustic impedance/admittance of the human ear by means of acoustic probe signals having different frequencies and temporal characteristics.
The practical use of such instruments concerns to a substantial extent the measurement of changes in acoustic impedance/admittance caused either by varying the air pressure in the external acoustic meatus or by activating the middle ear muscle reflex.
BS EN 60645-5 provides you with guidance on requirements for specific instruments, general specifications, demonstration of conformity with specifications, calibration cavities, general requirements, symbols, forms and formats for acoustic impedance/admittance data, additional characteristics to be specified by the manufacturer, etc.
The requirements and test methods provided by BS EN 60645-5 assist you in improving the performance and quality of audiometric instruments and enhancing the accuracy of aural acoustic impedance.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 60645-5, you can enhance audiometric instruments’ efficacy and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
