What is BS EN 61869-3 - Inductive voltage transformers about?
BS EN 61869-3 is the third part of a multi-series standard used for instrument transformers that specifies the test method and procedure for inductive voltage transformers. By using BS EN 61869-3 you can design and manufacture good quality inductive voltage transformers.
BS EN 61869-3 applies to new inductive voltage transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz.
Note: 301 Requirements specific to three-phase voltage transformers are not included in this standard but, so far as they are relevant, the requirements in clauses 4 to 10 apply to these transformers, and a few references to them are included in those clauses (e.g. see 3.1.303, 5.301.1, 5.301.2, 5.5.301, 6.13.301.1 and Table 304).
Note: All the transformers shall be suitable for measuring purposes, but, in addition, certain types may be suitable for protection purposes. Transformers for the dual purpose of measurement and protection shall comply with all clauses of this standard.
Who is BS EN 61869-3 - Inductive voltage transformers for?
BS EN 61869-3 on Instrument transformers is useful for:
- Manufacturer of electronic devices
- Manufacturer of automotive parts
- Manufacturer of the circuit board
- Electronic engineer
Why should you use BS EN 61869-3 - Inductive voltage transformers?
A transformer is basically used in measuring the electrical quantities like current, voltage, power, frequency, and power factor is known as an instrument transformer. This instrument transformer is useful in protecting the power system. Hence this inductive voltage transformer is used in measuring and protecting these power systems.
BS EN 61869-3 specifies the types of test methods and test procedures for inductive voltage transformers. The test methods are as follows:
- Withstands the impulse voltage on primary terminals
- Determines the lightning impulsive voltage
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests are useful in identifying the immunity and capacity of this transformer
- Routine test is useful in withstanding the power frequency, common-mode power frequency, and helps in calculating high voltage and protective voltage
- Special test is useful in measuring the capacitance and dielectric dissipation in the transformer
The designs specified in BS EN 61869-3 are useful in constructing and manufacturing these inductive voltage transformers. By applying BS EN 61869-3 you can ensure the sustainability of these transformers in different climatic conditions. This results in producing good quality inductive voltage transformers.
