What is BS EN 61952 - Composite line post insulators for A.C. systems about?
BS EN 61952 is a British standard on composite line post insulators.
BS EN 61952 is a guideline on the definition of the terms used, to prescribe test methods and prescribe acceptance or failure criteria. The composite line post insulators covered in the standard BS EN 61952 are subjected to cantilever, tensile and compressive loads.
Also, the composite line post insulators are supporting the line conductors. They are intended for use on a.c. overhead lines with a rated voltage greater than 1000 V and a frequency not greater than 100 Hz.
Notes: BS EN 61952 does not include requirements dealing with the choice of insulators for specific operating conditions.
Who is BS EN 61952 - Composite line post insulators for A.C. systems for?
BS EN 61952 on composite line post insulators for A.C. systems is useful for:
- Electrical Power Sector
- Manufacturer of traction line
- Electrical distribution system
- The railway industry
- The transportation industry
Why should you use BS EN 61952 - Composite line post insulators for A.C. systems?
Composite insulators transmit electricity to a large part of the area. Also, it requires less manpower, less material and is cheap. However, if mishandled then it can cause serious accidents.
BS EN 61952 guideline provides a specification on a composite line post insulators consisting of a load-bearing cylindrical insulating solid core consisting of fibres which are usually glass in a resin-based matrix. That housing (outside the insulating core) is made of polymeric material and end fittings permanently attached to the insulating core.
Using BS EN 61952 guidelines can increase the credibility of the equipment and safety and protection for its users.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 61952:2008 supersedes EN 61952:2003, which is withdrawn. BS EN 61952:2008 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 61952:2003.
These include:
- Removal of tests procedures now given in EN 62217
- Inclusion of clauses on tolerances, environmental conditions, transport, storage and installation
- Changes in the parameters determining the need to repeat design and type tests
- Clarification of the mounting arrangements for electrical type tests
- Modification of the specification of load application in bending tests to simplify testing
