What is BS EN 62770 – Unused natural esters about?
BS EN 62770 is an international standard on fluids for electrotechnical applications that describes specifications and test methods for unused natural esters in transformers and similar oil-impregnated electrical equipment in which a liquid is required as an insulating and heat transfer medium.
In BS EN 62770, the term “natural esters” applies to insulating fluids for transformers and similar electrical equipment with suitable biodegradability and environmental compatibility. Such natural esters are vegetable oils obtained from seeds and oils obtained from other suitable biological materials and delivered to an agreed point, at a set period. These oils are comprised of triglycerides.
BS EN 62770 is applicable only to unused natural esters.
Who is BS EN 62770 - Unused natural esters for?
BS EN 62770 on unused natural esters is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of transformers and electric equipment that use oil for insulation
- Electrical engineers
- Mechanical industries
- Ester’s suppliers
Why should you use BS EN 62770 - Unused natural esters?
Unused natural esters as delivered by the supplier. Such a liquid has not been used in, nor been in contact with electrical equipment or other equipment not required for its manufacture, storage, or transport.
BS EN 62770 provides properties, and their significant test methods and cover classification, identification, general delivery requirements, and sampling that ensures the quality of electrical equipment for transformers. These esters can be exposed to a higher temperature for longer periods with less degradation
Using BS EN 62770 guidelines specifies test methods for evaluating the physical and chemical properties, which helps you to determine unused natural esters for transformers and other electrical equipment.
