What is BS EN 772-11 - Water absorption of aggregate concrete and clay masonry units about?
BS EN 772 is a European standard that discusses methods of test for masonry units. The main objective of the BS EN 772 series is to provide the best industry methods to determine the quality and performance of construction products and materials such that they contribute to the structural integrity of your civil engineering works.
BS EN 772-11 is the 11th part of the BS EN 772 series that specifies a method of determining the water absorption coefficient due to capillary action for aggregate concrete, autoclaved aerated concrete, natural stone and manufactured stone masonry units and the initial rate of water absorption for clay masonry units.
Who is BS EN 772-11 - Water absorption of aggregate concrete and clay masonry units for?
BS EN 772-11 on masonry units is relevant to:
- Construction industry
- Masonry construction companies
- Manufacturers of concrete and concrete products
- Cement production plants
- Builders
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 772-11 - Water absorption of aggregate concrete and clay masonry units?
The water absorption test aims to determine the rate of water absorption by hydraulic cement concrete.
In this regard, the test mentioned in BS EN 772-11 involves the measurement of the increase of mass of concrete samples resulting from the absorption of water as a function of time when only one face of the specimen is exposed to water.
BS EN 772-11 specifies the materials and equipment required for testing masonry units.
BS EN 772-11 guides you through the preparation and conditioning of test specimens prior to testing, as well as the test technique for determining the water absorption of aggregate concrete, autoclaved aerated concrete, manufactured stone and natural stone masonry units.
As a result, you can demonstrate the quality, performance and reliability of your products by complying with BS EN 772-11, thus achieving the required structural integrity of your construction works.
