What is BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 - Radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus about?
BS EN IEC 55016 is a series on specifications for radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus and methods. radio disturbance is a disturbance generated by an external source that affects an electrical circuit by electromagnetic induction, electrostatic coupling, or conduction. BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 specifies the characteristics and performance of equipment for the measurement of radio disturbance in the frequency range 9 kHz to 18 GHz. In addition, requirements are provided for specialized equipment for discontinuous disturbance measurements.
The specifications in BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 apply to electromagnetic interference (EMI) receivers and spectrum analyzers. The term “measuring receiver” used in BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 refers to both EMI receivers and spectrum analyzers. The calibration requirements for measuring receivers.
Who is BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 - Radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus about?
BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 on radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus is useful for:
- Telecommunication sector
- Radiofrequency equipment manufacturers
- Atmospheric science labs
- Radiofrequency labs
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 - Radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus about?
The radio disturbance may degrade the performance of the circuit or even stop it from functioning. In the case of a data path, these effects can range from an increase in error rate to a total loss of the data. BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 describes the immunity measuring apparatus its testing and building specifications. BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 consists of measuring apparatus, coupling devices for conducted disturbance measurements, ancillary equipment – disturbance power antennas and test sites for radiated disturbance measurements, antenna calibration sites and reference test sites for 5 MHz to 18 GHz EMC antenna calibration to specify radio disturbance and immunity measuring apparatus and methods.
BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 discusses Spectrum analyzers and FFT-based measuring instruments that meet the requirements for the relevant detector or discontinuous disturbance analyzer (DDA) may be used for compliance measurements. For emission measurements, FFT-based measuring instruments sample and evaluate the signal continuously during the measurement time. BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 utilizes a “black-box” approach to determining equipment compliance to the standard. Equipment is determined to be compliant with BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 based only on meeting the stated performance requirements of BS EN IEC 55016-1-1. Using BS EN IEC 55016-1-1 you can specify the characteristics and performance of equipment for the measurement of radio disturbance in the frequency range 9 kHz to 18 GHz.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 55016-1-1:2019 supersedes BS EN 55016-1-1:2010+A2:2014. BS EN IEC 55016-1-1:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 55016-1-1:2010+A2:2014. These include:
- Reorganization of the document structure to remove common elements of receiver performance from Clauses 4, 5, 6, and 7 and create a new clause that applies across all of these clauses
- Rewording of Subclause B.1.1 for the purpose of correcting existing errors
- Amendments to Subclause 7.5.2 to modify the definition of the test signal to be used for calibrating and verifying the required RMS-average detector response to pulses of the receiver. This section will include a note requiring that the amplitude of the pulsed signal be verified prior to the calibration and will include several verification methods
- Amendments to Subclause 6.5.2 to modify the definition of the test signal to be used for calibrating and verifying the required average detector response to pulses. The purpose of this proposed change is the alignment of the test signal type with that of the newly proposed signal used to verify the RMS-average detector, allowing the use of a pulsed RF signal. This section will include a note requiring that the amplitude of the pulsed signal be verified prior to the calibration and will include several verification methods
- Implementation and use of Gaussian filters
