What is BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 - Specification for radio disturbance about?
BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 is a safety standard for radio disturbance, and immunity measuring apparatus, and methods. BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 specifies the characteristics, and performance of equipment for the measurement of radiated disturbances in the frequency range 9 kHz to 18 GHz.
BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 provides specifications for antennas, and test sites. The requirements mentioned in BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 can be applied at all frequencies, and for all levels of radiated disturbances within the CISPR indicating the range of the measuring equipment.
Who is BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 - Specification for radio disturbance for?
BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 on the specification for radio disturbance, and immunity measuring apparatus, and methods is relevant to:
- EMC testing laboratories
- Electromagnetic interference engineers
- Mechanical engineers
- Aerospace, construction, and automotive industries
- Manufacturers of Common-mode absorption devices (CMADs)
Why should you use BS EN IEC 55016 1‑4 - Specification for radio disturbance?
An antenna is a transducer that converts the guided electromagnetic energy of the feed line into a radiated wave in space, and vice versa. BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 describes the ratio of the electric field strength of a plane wave incident from the direction corresponding to the mechanical boresight (i.e., the main axis of the antenna) to the voltage induced across the specified load connected to the antenna, measured in a free-space environment.
BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 assists the user with several types of antennas. Antennas of the type that are used for radiated disturbance measurements, having been calibrated, are used to measure the field strength, considering their radiation patterns, and mutual coupling with their surroundings. To provide illumination of all reflecting surfaces during this test, and to simulate the possible low-directivity radiation patterns exhibited by many EUTs, BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 specifies characteristics for equipment used for SVSWR testing. For this purpose, RX, and TX antennas are used. Site validation tests are performed for a volume in the shape of a cylinder.
Overall, BS EN IEC 55016‑1‑4 is useful as it provides guidance on the various CISPR publications, particular antennas which are used in making measurements; other types of antennas that are used to determine results, are equivalent to those obtained with the specified antenna.
