What is BS EN IEC 60068-2-5- Solar radiation testing and weathering about?
The IEC 60068 is a European Standard series that covers environmental testing requirements. The main purpose of IEC 60068 is to objectively assess the environmental effects on products and processes.
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 is one of the parts of the IEC 60068 series that specifies methods of a simulation designed to examine the effect of solar radiation on equipment and components at the surface of the earth.
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 help you to investigate to what extent the equipment or components are affected by simulated solar radiation in the presence of moisture to reproduce the weathering effects (temperature, humidity, and/or wetting) that occur when they are exposed in actual end-use environments to daylight or to daylight filtered through window glass.
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 specifies two test methods, test method SA: thermal effect test, and test method Sb: weathering test.
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 is applicable to the equipment and components at the surface of the earth.
Who is BS EN IEC 60068-2-5- Solar radiation testing and weathering for?
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 on environmental testing is useful for:
- Electrotechnical equipment designers and engineers
- Project engineers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60068-2-5-Solar radiation testing and weathering?
The spectrum irradiance of solar radiation as observed at the earth's surface, as well as the intensity of received energy, in combination with controlled temperature settings, are the essential characteristics of the environment to be replicated.
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5 provides you with the methods of a simulation developed to analyse the effects of solar radiation on equipment and components at the earth's surface are described in BS EN IEC 60068-2-5. The spectrum irradiance of solar radiation as observed at the earth's surface, as well as the intensity of received energy, in combination with controlled temperature settings, are the essential characteristics of the environment to be replicated.
With the best industry guidance in BS EN IEC 60068-2-5, you can assess the effects of solar radiation on various testing equipment and components, allowing you to improve their performance by measuring the solar radiation effect precisely.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60068-2-5:2018 supersedes BS EN 60068‑2‑5:2011, which is withdrawn. Following are the significant technical changes with respect to the BS EN 60068‑2‑5:2011:
- The title of this document has been modified
- The current thermal effect test method, specified as "Test method Sa" has been retained and the weathering test method specified as "Test method Sb" has been added
