What is BS EN IEC 60317-84 about?
This part of IEC 60317 forms an element of a series of standards which deals with insulated wires used for windings in electrical equipment.
BS EN IEC 60317-84 is the 84th part of a multi-series that specifies the requirements of enamelled round copper winding wires of class 200 with a sole coating based on polyesterimide resin, which may be modified providing it retains the chemical identity of the original resin and meets all specified wire requirements.
Who is BS EN IEC 60317-84 for?
BS EN IEC 60317-84 on specifications for winding wires is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of winding wires
- Manufacturers and suppliers of polyesterimide enamelled copper wire
- Manufacturers of electrical equipment
- Electrical engineers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60317-84?
Winding wires are largely used in the construction of applications such as transformers, motors and generators. The main purpose of a winding wire is to interchange electrical energy with magnetic energy. With regards to polyesterimide resin, it is a resin that has undergone a chemical change or contains one or more additives to enhance certain performance or application characteristics.
BS EN IEC 60317-84 provides you with the range of nominal conductor diameters based on three grades. You can also find the values for resistance to abrasion for these three grades along with reference to standards for recommended dimensions, electrical resistance, elongation, and flexibility, amongst other parameters, in BS EN IEC 60317-84.
Adopting the specifications for the particular type of winding wire in compliance with BS EN IEC 60317-84 will ensure properties such as mechanical strength, temperature and heat resistance remain intact for the optimal performance of your specific application, without loss of the chemical properties of the resin.
This can help make the right production decisions based on thickness and grade, to ensure durability and long service life of polyesterimide enamelled round copper wires.
