What is BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 - Test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables - Category B about?
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 specifies methods of test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables category B.
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 dealing with tests on electric and optical fibre cables under fire conditions.
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 relates to cables installed on the test ladder to achieve a nominal total volume of non-metallic material of 3,5 l/m of test sample. The flame application time is 40 min. The method of mounting uses the front of the standard ladder. The category is intended for typical use where medium volumes of non-metallic material are required to be evaluated.
The test is intended for type approval testing. The requirements for the selection of cables for testing are given in BS EN IEC 60332-3-23. The flame spread is measured as the extent of damage of the cable sample. This procedure can be used to demonstrate the cable’s ability to limit flame spread.
Note1: BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 covers category B for methods of test for the assessment of the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables, electrical or optical, under defined conditions.
Note2: For the purposes of BS EN IEC 60332-3-23, the term "electric wire or cable" covers all insulated metallic conductor cables used for the conveyance of energy or signals.
Who is BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 - Test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables - Category B for?
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 on test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables - category A is useful for:
- Cables manufacturers and suppliers
- Electrical engineers
- Electrical wire manufacturers and suppliers
- Quality control
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 - Test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables - Category B?
Vertical flame test assesses the flame retardant properties on a single cable length. BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 provides essential information about the cable's fire properties and is therefore often used in product development contexts and process optimization.
It is important to verify quality rating while manufacturing cables BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 specifies methods of test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables category B.
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 provides requirements for the selection of cables for testing. The flame spread is measured as the extent of damage to the cable sample. This procedure can be used to demonstrate the cable’s ability to limit flame spread.
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23 specifies methods of test for the vertical flame spread of vertically-mounted bunched wires or cables for higher safety, reliability, stability in voltage, less cost in installation, maintenance, and operation of wires or cables.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23:2018 supersedes BS EN 60332‑3‑23:2009.
BS EN IEC 60332-3-23:2018 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- Adjustments have been made to the title, and elsewhere, to emphasize the standard is applicable to optical fibre cables as well as metallic conductor types
- Details of the way in which cables are mounted on the ladder have been better defined to improve repeatability and reproducibility
