What is BS EN IEC 60372 about?
BS EN IEC 60372 is applicable to locking devices used with ball and socket couplings of string insulator units and used with the corresponding metal fittings standardized in IEC 60120 when they are supplied separately.
The objective of BS EN IEC 60372 is to define the shapes and some standard dimensions for locking devices and give other dimensions for the guidance of manufacturing only.
The objective of this BS EN IEC 60372 does not include the specification of the nature of the material, and the material covered by the scope of this document does not have a surface coating for corrosion protection.
Who is BS EN IEC 60372for?
BS EN IEC 60372 on locking devices for ball and socket couplings is relevant to:
- Coupling manufacturer
- Insulator manufacturer
- Electrical engineers
- Companies involved with power transmission and distribution lines
- Industries working with high-voltage transmission lines
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60372?
A locking device for ball and socket coupling is a component which prevents pin ball decoupling from socket, when it is in locking position, by using its shape and material properties.
BS EN IEC 60372 standardises two types of locking devices, one using a split-pin the other a W- shaped clip.
BS EN IEC 60372 covers the shapes and dimensions of locking devices along with qualification tests that evaluate properties such as hardness, resistance to bending, and corrosion resistance. BS EN IEC 60372 also provides the acceptance conditions for supply.
Overall, adopting best industry practices to manufacture and supply locking devices for ball and socket coupling, can enhance the operational efficiency of the end-use application.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60372:2020 replaces the third edition published in 1984. This edition constitutes the following technical revision:
- Two new designated sizes of couplings, 36 and 40, were introduced
