What is BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 about?
BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 discusses connectors for electrical and electronic equipment. BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 is to detail a standard method for subjecting solderless connections to thermal stress conditioning by cyclic current loading. BS EN IEC 60512-9-5, when required by the detailed product specification, is used for testing connectors or solderless connections within the scope of technical committee 48.
Who is BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 for?
BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 on connectors is useful for:
- Electrical equipment manufacturers
- Electrical equipment suppliers
- Connectors manufacturers
- Electrical engineers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60512-9-5?
The object of BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 is to detail a standard method for subjecting solderless connections to thermal stress conditioning by cyclic current loading. BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 will help to verify the right combination of conductor material, termination material, and tool application, in case of any possible creep phenomena that might lead to a reduction of performance of the solderless connection.
BS EN IEC 60512-9-5 provides endurance test by thermal conditioning, whose aim is to submit specimens of connectors using solderless connections or of solderless connections to repeated cycling between ambient temperature (normal laboratory conditions) and the upper limiting temperature (ULT).
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60512-9-5:2020 cancels and replaces BS EN 60512-9-5:2010.
BS EN IEC 60512-9-5:2020 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to BS EN 60512-9-5:2010:
- Added method B and renamed the former test method as method A, to provide an alternative with more adjustable time “ON” and “OFF” for products with larger thermal mass
- Added introduction to provide a background of this revision
