What is BS EN IEC 60667-1 about?
This International Standard is one of a series which deals with vulcanized fibre sheets for electrical purposes.
BS EN IEC 60667-1 is the first part in a multi-series that provides the definitions and general requirements for vulcanized fibre sheets for electrical purposes. Materials made by combining with an adhesive several thicknesses of vulcanized fibre are not covered by BS EN IEC 60667-1.
Who is BS EN IEC 60667-1for?
BS EN IEC 60667-1 on vulcanized fibre for electrical purposes is relevant to:
- Vulcanized fibre manufacturer
- Manufacturers of electrical applications that use vulcanized fibre
- Electrical engineers
- Automobile industry
- Construction industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60667-1?
Vulcanized fibres are produced by laminating plies of 100% cellulose paper after saturation phases in zinc chloride and acid baths. This manufacturing process gives this insulating material superior mechanical, insulating and electrical characteristics.
BS EN IEC 60667-1 covers classifications, forms and colours, and requirements for quality, finish, thickness, and conditions of supply.
Overall, adopting requirements and guidelines in compliance with BS EN IEC 60667-1 can help establish standardised production processes that impart credibility and reliability for your products. The use of high-quality vulcanized fibre for electrical purposes can enhance the performance and service-life of the end-use application.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60667-1:2020 supersedes BS 6091-1:1981, which is withdrawn. Some of the changes are:
- Types A, B and C replaced by general and fish paper types and addition of a symbol for each type in the classification
- Addition of white, blue, brown, and addition of a symbol for each colour
- Addition of the manufacturer's name, trademark (if any), nominal thickness, manufacturer date, and lot number in the conditions of supply
