What is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 about?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 discusses optical fibre cables. Optical fibre cables are used with telecommunication equipment and devices. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 defines the general requirements and methodology guidance applicable to all the cable test methods. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 also provides the end-user with an overview of the different test methods.
BS EN IEC 60794 defines test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for the geometrical, transmission, material, mechanical, ageing (environmental exposure) and climatic properties of optical fibre cables and electrical requirements where appropriate.
Who is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 for?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 on optical cable test procedures is useful for:
- Manufacturers of networking equipment such as optical fibre cables
- IT personnel / hardware engineers
- Quality control and testing personnel
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2?
Optical fibre cables need to be tested so that RF transmission and performance can be regulated. BS EN IEC 60794-1-2 provides you guidelines for conducting tests that ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Following the optical cable test procedures elaborated in BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2 lets you check for speed, bandwidth levels, security, safety, moisture tolerance, electric isolation and temperature fluctuations, and EM immunity.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2:2021 supersedes BS EN 60794‑1‑2:2017. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑2:2021 includes an editorial change with respect to BS EN 60794‑1‑2:2017, which is as follows:
- Addition of cross-reference tables listing the new test method numbers and the previous test method numbers.
