What is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401about?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401 discusses optical fibre cables, with a focus on assessing the performance of optical ground wire (OPGW) or optical phase conductor (OPPC) cables. The testing method described is the short-circuit test, that assesses the impact of a short-circuit current on the messenger wire.
Together with other documents in the series, BS EN IEC 60794 defines test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for the geometrical, transmission, material, mechanical, ageing (environmental exposure) and climatic properties of optical fibre cables and electrical requirements where appropriate.
Who is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401for?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401on optical fibre cables is useful for:
- Manufacturers of fibre optic cables
- Internet communication providers
- Computer network sectors
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401?
If optical fibre cables are expected to provide consistent, high-speed transmission of data, they need to adhere to the highest quality standards. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401 defines two-sample test methods. BS EN IEC 60794-1-401 walks you through the short circuit test for different types of cables - OPGW, and the OPPC, and OPAC.
The short circuit tests help you to study the endurance of the optical fibre cables under conditions where the power fluctuates. Using this test, you would be in a position to design optical fibre cables that resist short circuit conditions and remain unscathed in such situations.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401:2021 supersedes BS EN 60794‑1‑24:2014. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑401:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60794‑1‑24:2014. These include:
