What is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 about?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 discusses optical fibre cables. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 specifies a method of verifying that cable metallic elements are electrically continuous throughout the cable. Electrical continuity is important for bonding and grounding, toning for location, and other related system issues, and may represent a "goodness of manufacture" criterion.
Typically, the test is one of continuity and carries no resistance or conductivity requirement. The metallic elements can be tested individually or can be tested as a total group. Since this latter criterion is frequently the case, all elements are measured as a group unless specified otherwise.
The following deviations from the standard test can be included and shall be performed if specified by the detailed specification:
- Metallic elements to be measured individually or in type groups
- That element resistance is to be measured, and the maximum resistance value allowed
- Any other special criteria to be applied
Who is BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 for?
BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 on optical fibre cables is useful for:
- Manufacturers of fibre optic cables
- Internet communication providers
- Computer network sectors
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403?
Electrical continuity of the optical fibre cable is an important factor for ensuring a positive and consistent customer experience. BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 provides you with requirements for electrical test methods to verify that cable metallic elements have adequate electrical continuity throughout the cable to ensure consistent performance of the whole cable system.
Together with other documents in the series, the purpose of BS EN IEC 60794‑1‑403 is to define general requirements and methodology guidance applicable to all the cable test methods as well as to provide the manufacturer with an overview of the different test methods.
