What is BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 about?
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 discusses optical fibre cables. BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 covers outdoor optical fibre cables intended for rugged terrestrial rapid/multiple deployments. These cables, with enhanced mechanical, environmental and ingress performance; can be used wherever a rapid or multiple deployments is relevant (e.g., mobile broadcast units, emergency rescue services, tactical ground forces, outdoor motion-robotics, mining machinery, temporary repair cables for damaged links, etc.).
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 elaborates on the type of secondary coating, materials and dimensions (tight buffer, tube, ribbon, slotted core, etc.).
Who is BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 for?
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 on optical fibre cables is useful for:
- Manufacturers of fibre optic cables
- Internet communication providers
- Computer network sectors
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70?
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 provides you with design and testing guidelines for outdoor optical fibre cables intended for rugged terrestrial rapid or multiple deployments, which are designed to be used in unprotected outdoor terrestrial environments thereby requiring enhanced mechanical, environmental and ingress performance.
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70 guides you to makes outdoor optical fibre cables suitable for use by manual or mechanically assisted deployment. They are differentiated from other outdoor optical fibre cables due to repeated deployment/installation, unprotected working environments, often stored on relatively small diameter drums and uncontrolled or non-regulated cable routes.
BS EN IEC 60794‑4‑30 provides tests such as the tensile performance test, abrasion test, ribbon strippability, and torsion test.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70:2021 supersedes BS EN 60794‑3‑70:2016. BS EN IEC 60794‑3‑70:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60794‑3‑70:2016. These include:
- Incorporation of the new classification system for optical fibre categories, sub-categories in IEC 60793-2-10.
- Incorporation of the new classification system for optical fibre categories, sub-categories and models in IEC 60793-2-50.
- Updating of cabled fibre performance categories in alignment with ISO/IEC 11801-1.
- Updating of bibliographical references.
