What is BS EN IEC 61162-460 - Ethernet interconnection about?
BS EN IEC 61162-460 is an add-on to IEC 61162-450 where higher safety and security standards are needed, for example, due to higher exposure to external threats or to improve network integrity.
BS EN IEC 61162-460 provides requirements and test methods for equipment too be used in an IEC 61162-460 compliant network as well as requirements for the network itself and requirements for interconnection from the network to other networks. BS EN IEC 61162-460 also contains requirements for a redundant IEC 61162-460 compliant network.
NOTE: BS EN IEC 61162-460 does not introduce new application-level protocol requirements to those that are defined in IEC 61162-450.
Who is BS EN IEC 61162-460 - Ethernet interconnection for?
BS EN IEC 61162-460 on ethernet interconnection is relevant to:
- Shipping industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61162-460- Ethernet interconnection?
Maritime networks establish wireless multi-hop networks to provide wireless broadband service at sea, connecting various kinds of ships, maritime buoys, and beacons. A maritime network, which is integrated with satellite communication, establishes a wireless multi-hop network under a maritime environment.
BS EN IEC 61162-460 navigates you through the high-level requirements, physical component requirements, logical component requirements, network traffic management requirements, security requirements, redundancy requirements, network monitoring requirements, methods of testing, and required test results.
As a user of BS EN IEC 61162-460, you can be ensured of all the requirements and methods of test for high-speed communication between shipboard navigation and radiocommunication equipment. With BS EN IEC 61162-460 you can improve network integrity. With the help of BS EN IEC 61162-460, the user can access, retrieve and manage files from the ship. With obedience and compliance to BS EN IEC 61162-460, you can efficiently transfer data between devices on a shipboard Ethernet network.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61162-460:2018 supersedes BS EN 61162-460:2015, which will be withdrawn on 8 June 2021
BS EN IEC 61162-460:2018 includes the following significant technical changes concerning the previous edition:
- 460-Switches and 460-Forwarders are required to implement IGMP snooping
- Connection between secure and non-secure areas requires a 460-Forwarder as an isolation element
- SFI collision detection added as a function of network monitoring
- 460-Gateway and 460-Wireless gateway are no longer required to report to the Network Monitoring
- All alerts from network monitoring have standardized alert identifiers
