What is BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 about?
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 is a part of multi-series in European standard lays down requirements for the design qualification of terrestrial photovoltaic modules suitable for long-term operation in open-air climates. The useful service life of modules so qualified will depend on their design, their environment and the conditions under which they are operated.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 gives technical specifications such as terms, definitions, test samples, pass criteria, test flow procedures, major visual defects, marking and documentation etc for carrying out testing of thin-film Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) based photovoltaic (PV) modules.
Note 1: BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 does not apply to modules used with concentrated sunlight although it may be utilized for low concentrator modules. For low concentration modules, all tests are performed using the irradiance, current, voltage and power level expected at the design concentration.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 is intended to apply to all thin-films Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) based terrestrial flat plate modules.
Who is BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 for?
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 on thin-film Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic modules is used in:
- Manufactures and suppliers of cadmium telluride (CdTe)
- Companies dealing with solar cells/panels
- Retailers and dealers of cadmium telluride and solar panels/cells
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2?
Cadmium Tellurise (CdTe) photovoltaic is used in a thin semiconductor of layer which is designed to absorb the sunlight and convert it into electricity.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 gives you the provisions to amplify the functionality and quality of Thin-film Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) by testing with special care taken for stabilizing the power output of the module using procedures with specific requirements while manufacturing the Cadmium Telluride photovoltaic modules.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 provides you with the safety measures for Cadmium Telluride by stating various procedures such as type testing, damp-heat test, endurance testing, mechanical testing, thermal-cycling testing, which can help you to reduce the risks while dealing with the manufacturing or security evaluation of the thin-film Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) based photovoltaic (PV) modules.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2 serves the purpose of determining the electrical characteristics of the module and to show, as far as possible within reasonable constraints of cost and time, that the module is capable of withstanding prolonged exposure outdoors.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2:2021 gives you the protection for Environment which is caused by fossil fuels. Thus, making the environment safer than it was.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2:2021 supersedes BS EN 61215‑1‑2:2017, which is withdrawn.
BS EN IEC 61215‑1‑2:2021 includes:
- A cyclic (dynamic) mechanical load test (MQT 20) added
- A test for detection of potential-induced degradation (MQT 21) added
- A bending test (MQT 22) for flexible modules added.
