What is BS EN IEC 61228 about?
BS EN IEC 61228 is a standard that discusses about fluorescent ultraviolet lamps which is used for tanning which ensures the safety of tanning applications. BS EN IEC 61228 describes the method of measuring, evaluating and specifying the UV irradiation characteristics of fluorescent ultraviolet lamps that are used in appliances for tanning purposes.
BS EN IEC 61228 includes specific requirements regarding the making of such lamps. These requirements relate only to type testing.
Who is BS EN IEC 61228 for?
BS EN IEC 61228 on fluorescent violet lamps in applicable for:
- Manufacturers of fluorescent violet lamps for tanning applications
- Retailers and suppliers of fluorescent violet lamps
- Testing houses for fluorescent violet lamps
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61228?
Fluorescent lamp is a discharge lamp of the low-pressure mercury type in which most of the light is emitted by one or several layers of phosphors excited by the ultraviolet radiation from the discharge. They are used in tanning applications.
BS EN IEC 61228 provides you specification and measurement for ultraviolet lamps such as spectroradiometer, bandwidth, irradiance, spectral, action spectrum, initial value and maintenance code which help in manufacturing fluorescent ultraviolet lamps for tanning is a precise manner.
As a user of BS EN IEC 61228, you can assess the safety and performance of fluorescent ultraviolet lamps that can be used for tanning applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61228:2020 supersedes BS EN 61228:2008, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 61228:2020 includes:
- Maintenance code: description of the depreciation of the UV irradiance lamp during operation
- Operating position: information added for single capped lamps and Annex C (normative), Method of test for irradiance maintenance: new information added
- Spectro radiometric measuring system: new information about distance between sensor and lamp axis
- Measurement and evaluation procedure: separated detailed information for double capped fluorescent UV lamps and single capped fluorescent UV lamps
- Annex D (normative), Reflector gauge: new information added and Annex E (normative), Lamp datasheets for measurement: complementary information added
