What is BS EN IEC 61265 - Electroacoustic performance in aircraft about?
BS EN IEC 61265 is standard covering electroacoustic performance in aircraft systems to measure sound pressure levels in noise certification of aircraft, to determine the noise pollution caused by aircraft.
BS EN IEC 61265 specifies requirements for the electroacoustical performance of systems of instruments used to measure sound for the purposes of aircraft noise certification and for other comparisons among aircraft models.
BS EN IEC 61265 provides methods by which tests can be made periodically to verify that the performance continues to conform to the requirements within stated limits.
The sound measurement system mentioned in BS EN IEC 61265 comprises a combination of instruments extending from a microphone, including its windscreen and other accessories, through data recording and processing devices to a suitable output.
Different measurement systems, regardless of their composition, perform the necessary functions in different ways and operate on either analogue or digital principles.
Who is BS EN IEC 61265 - Electroacoustic performance in aircraft for?
BS EN IEC 61265 on electro-acoustical performance in aircraft is applicable to:
- Aerospace and defence industries
- Aircraft manufacturers
- Agencies involved in aircraft noise certification
- Testing houses and labs in aerospace industry
- Quality control personnel for electro-acoustical performance
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61265 - Electroacoustic performance in aircraft?
Aircraft noise pollution is the noise produced by planes while in flight. The quality of life of communities living near airports or busy flight paths is improved by reducing aeroplane noise pollution. Because noise pollution has been shown to have negative impacts on health and ability to perform, even in the cockpit, it is critical to reducing noise emissions even further.
BS EN IEC 61265 provides users guidance on requirements for electroacoustic performance, including measurement uncertainty, reference environmental conditions, sound calibrator, microphone system, spectrum analysis system and more, enabling users to ensure the operability and accuracy of electroacoustic performance.
BS EN IEC 61265 provides users guidance on requirements for the electro-acoustical performance of instruments for measurement of the sound produced by aircraft in flight or on the ground, or by an aircraft engine installed on an outdoor test stand, for the purposes of demonstrating compliance with aircraft noise certification limits established by relevant national aviation authorities and for the measurement system.
Adoption of BS EN IEC 61265 allows users to develop and assess instruments for measuring sound produced by aircraft, to limit the noise levels that are in compliance with required regulations.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61265:2018 supersedes BS EN 61265:1995. BS EN IEC 61265:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 61265:1995. These include:
- Addition of guidance for measurements for aircraft other than large transport airplanes
- Addition of microphones used in group plane measurement system
- Addition of weighted sound level measurements other than one-third-octave band measurements, for certain aircraft types
- Revision and clarification of requirements for digital audio recording
- Addition of requirements for evaluation of measurement uncertainty
