What is BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 - Withdrawal force of ferrule of fibre optic devices about?
BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 is the 33rd part of the IEC 61300-3 series that discusses basic test and measurement procedures and examinations for fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components.
BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 describes the procedure to measure the withdrawal force between the pin gauge and the resilient alignment sleeve. This measurement procedure is applicable to single-fibre cylindrical ferrule optical connectors.
Who is BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 - Withdrawal force of ferrule of fibre optic devices for?
BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components is useful for:
- Telecommunication equipment and component manufacturers
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 - Withdrawal force of ferrule of fibre optic devices?
Resilient alignment sleeves are split sleeves in zirconia or metal material that align in their bore with the ferrules of the connector. The ferrule withdrawal force is the highest force (breakaway force) required to remove one of the ferrules from the sleeve of a fibre optic connector.
The test method described in BS EN IEC 61300-3-33 enables you to determine the maximum resistance to the breakaway force of ferrule from a resilient alignment sleeve using a pin gauge.
The results from these tests can help you to identify the appropriate ferrules with suitable withdrawal force.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61300-3-33:2022 supersedes BS EN IEC 61300-3-33:2012. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- Harmonize "gauge pin" to "pin gauge"
- Update test apparatus in Figure 1
- Change of clause structure
- Specified pin gauge requirements in Table 1
