What is BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 - Fibre optic interconnecting device about?
BS EN IEC 61300 is a series on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components. The broad variety of passive optical components applications include multichannel transmission, distribution, optical taps for monitoring, pump combiners for fibre amplifiers, bit-rate limiters, optical connects, route diversity, polarization diversity, interferometers, and coherent communication. BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 describes the procedure to measure the angular misalignment between the ferrule bore axis and the outside diameter datum axis of a cylindrical ferrule.
Who is BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 - Fibre optic interconnecting device for?
BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components is useful for:
- Telecommunication component manufacturers
- Fibre optic equipment manufacturers
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 - Fibre optic interconnecting device?
Passive optical components are data format transparent, combining and dividing optical power in some predetermined ratio (coupling ratio) regardless of the information content of the signals. BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 defines the test procedure that describes the measurement of the angular misalignment between the ferrule bore axis and the outside diameter datum axis of a cylindrical ferrule. This procedure measures the angular misalignment θ by measuring the tip image deviation of a pin gauge fitted into the ferrule bore as the ferrule is rotated around its axis. The apparatus consists of the items described in BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 Alternative apparatus may be used if it does not have a negative impact on the measurement uncertainty. The most significant terms in the uncertainty budget are described in BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54.
BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 defines the specification and required accuracy of the apparatus, allowable angular misalignment, dimensions of the pin gauge used (length, outer diameter), ferrule bore diameter, protrusion of the pin gauge from the ferrule end face, magnification of the microscope, image plane resolution per pixel, the accuracy of the precision alignment stage, deviation from the test procedure, and the measurement uncertainty of the procedure. Using BS EN IEC 61300‑3‑54 you can describe the procedure to measure the angular misalignment between the ferrule bore axis and the outside diameter datum axis of a cylindrical ferrule.
