What is BS EN IEC 61333 - Marking on ferrite cores about?
BS EN IEC 61333 is an international standard that discusses magnetic components, ferrite and magnetic powder materials. BS EN IEC 61333 specifies marking locations and a coding system of marking on ferrite cores.
The markings of the inductance factor AL value or the gap length and their coding system is also specified in this BS EN IEC 61333.
Who is BS EN IEC 61333 - Marking on ferrite cores for?
BS EN IEC 61333 on marking on ferrite cores is relevant to:
- Ferrite core manufacturers and suppliers
- Manufacturers of electrical applications such as transformers, inductors etc
- Electronics industry
- Telecommunication industry
- Automotive industry
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61333 - Marking on ferrite cores?
A ferrite core is a type of magnetic core made of ferrite on which the windings of electric transformers and other wound components such as inductors are formed.
BS EN IEC 61333 specifies about information should be marked on ferrite cores and the priority of information should follow the order given below if the marking space is limited.
BS EN IEC 61333 provides guidance on:
- Marking locations for E-cores, ring cores, planar cores, RM cores, PQ cores and pot cores
- Marking content
- Material identification code
- AL value or gap length
With BS EN IEC 61333, the alphanumerical marking printed or attached to cores reduces the risk of incorrect assembly, mixing of materials, and mixing of gapped cores on an assembly line.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 61333:2019 supersedes BS EN 61333:1998, which is withdrawn. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- The title of the document was changed
- The scope of this document was expanded
- The marking position instructions for ring cores, planar cores, RM-cores, PQ-cores and
- Pot-cores were added in Clause 4 with a few additional descriptions
- The four-digit-maximum limit of material identification code has been deleted in 5.2 in Table 1, the unit of AL has been changed from "nH" to "nH/N2
